Third Sunday of Easter

Daily Reflection

Third Sunday of Easter

Frenetic lives

From today’s Scripture: “But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than men.’”—Acts 5:29

The word obedience comes from the Latin obedire, meaning “to listen, to pay attention to.”  We are constantly besieged by nonessential stuff clamoring for our attention: advertising, social media, emails, texts, entertainment, even our own inner compulsions. St. Mother Teresa frequently spoke of the antidote to our distracted, frenetic lives: “We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness.” Where will you give your most focused attention today?

Let us pray: Lord, help me to silence the noise and listen to you.
