Summer Challenge a testament to God’s call

The Summer 2019 edition of Glenmary Challenge is a testament to vocations and the power of God’s call. The magazine will mail to subscribers in early June.

This issue highlights the recent ordination of two men to the priesthood and celebrates the jubilee anniversaries of four others who have persevered for 25, 50 and even 60 years. Also in this issue seven young men are seen professing or renewing their Glenmary Oaths as they progress in formation toward becoming missioners for life.

Keeping with the summer theme, the feature story focuses on the Vacation Bible School at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lafayette, Tenn. Thanks to a connection with Glenmary, a parish from Maryland brings youth volunteers each summer to facilitate a week of learning and spiritual growth.

The Wise Missioner interview, a recurring feature on spirituality, features Father Dominic Duggins, who shares the wisdom of quiet listening as a virtue.

Other news items include Glenmary’s newly elected executive council, the addition of 19 Catholics to the Church at Easter and more on Glenmary’s performance at the Flying Pig Marathon and 5K.

Glenmary Challenge has three goals: to educate Catholics about the U.S. home missions, to motivate young men to consider Glenmary priesthood or brotherhood and to invite all Catholics to respond to their baptismal call to be a missionary by partnering with Glenmary as financial contributors, prayer partners, professional coworkers and/or volunteers.
