Forgiveness

From today’s Scripture: “‘Your sins are forgiven.’”—Luke 7:48

I love these words which the priest uses at the end of Confession. I hear them as coming from God. They are words of freedom, peace, acceptance, and affirmation by God, who is the forgiver.

Knowing these words will come gives me the courage to make a good confession. I don’t like saying my sins out loud to somebody else. I cannot even imagine the courage of the woman in the Gospel who went into a public place, where she would be criticized and condemned, to pour out her sorrow. How do you think she felt when she heard Jesus say, “Your sins are forgiven?”

Let us pray: Jesus, thank you for your forgiveness. Don’t let me, or anyone else, miss out on it.
