Healing power of prayer

From today’s Scripture: “As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him. They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.”—Mk 6:54-55

On the night of January 2, 2023, we witnessed a tragedy during the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills football game. A young player collapsed onto the field following a tackle. As it became clear that things were critical, you could see the anguish on the faces of his teammates, coaches and members of the opposing team.

As the camera panned the sidelines and field you saw players kneeling together in prayer. We heard an announcer say, “I am bowing my head and will now pray for Damar.” Later we saw fans gather outside the hospital to pray.

On that night, Jesus was recognized and we were the ones scurrying to carry Damar Hamlin to Jesus for healing.

Let us pray: Lord, I thank you for the healing that has taken place in this young man. I pray that those who do not believe but who witnessed the power of prayer and your healing touch will be drawn to you. Lord, use this to strengthen our faith in you. Give us the grace to always scurry to bring those that need your healing touch to you in prayer.
