Sixth Saturday of Easter

Daily Reflection

Sixth Saturday of Easter

When will God answer my prayers?

From today’s Scripture: Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Amen, Amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.’—Jn 16:23

Many years ago I remember, during one of my conferences with the novice director, saying, “I pray constantly for patience and a peaceful and understanding heart. God hasn’t begun to answer my prayer.” Without any hesitation, he said “O, brother, he is answering your prayer, he is giving you daily opportunities to practice patience.” I looked at him and said, “That’s not exactly what I had in mind.” How many times have any of us prayed for something and wondered, When will God answer my prayers?

God does answer our prayers, but it might not be the answer we were looking for. In time we realize that God answered our prayers in ways that we least expected or hoped for. We need only the patience to wait and listen for God to speak to our hearts.

Let us pray: God, thank you for loving me each day. Give me the patience and understanding to see your presence acting in my life, in my family and friends, in our world.
