Second Wednesday of Easter Season

Called into light

From today’s Scripture: “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” —Jn 3:16

God did not come to condemn the world. This might come as a surprise to some. The Sadducees condemned Peter and John in today’s epistle but by the end of the reading it is they who fear condemnation.

What are we to make of this? The Gospel reminds us that the new creation born from Christ’s side and breathed into the world is a reality that is lighter, not bound by darkness, one of truth. This reality simply is and calls people out of the darkness of their own condemnation and death. God so loved the world that he chose to recreate it.

Let us pray: O God, bring your truth into my life. Help me to see in your world the light of creation. Help me to bring that light to those who will cross my path today.
