Second Thursday of Advent

I, the LORD, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

Today’s Reading: Is 41:13-20

“…I will open up rivers on the bare heights,
and fountains in the broad valleys;
I will turn the desert into a marshland,
and the dry ground into springs of water….”

Reflection: The prophet Isaiah sings to our hearts in the moving readings of Advent season. Isaiah proclaims God’s mercy and goodness here to a people in captivity, the Israelites forced into exile in Babylon. Don’t we sometimes see most clearly what we have in life after we’ve lost it? In a sense, that’s what fasting is about: we step away from what all that we have in order to appreciate that which is most important, our life in Christ.

Let us pray: Loving God, you are mercy itself. Shine into my heart today. Heal me of all that holds me back from loving you and the people around me. Renew love in me.
