First Sunday of Advent

Daily Reflection

First Sunday of Advent

Jesus is coming!

From today’s Scripture: “Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.”—(Mt 24:42)

We were visiting a parishioner in Missouri when a tornado hit. Even though we heard the sirens, we remained outside gazing at the sky. We were mesmerized as the sky darkened and hail began falling. Suddenly seeing the approaching tornado, we made a last minute dash into the house and began to pray.

Jesus is coming soon. How should we prepare to receive Him? We can choose the last minute dash or the beautiful journey of spending quiet moments in prayer with him, seeking him in the sacraments and in Scripture. In the journey, we come to truly know the one our heart is longing to see.

Let us pray: Lord as I begin this Advent journey help me to seek you now. Help me to not become so absorbed in the chaos of this world that I fail to recognize you.
