Feast of St. Mary Magdalene

Daily Reflection

Feast of St. Mary Magdalene

Open my ears.

From today’s Scripture: Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord.”—Jn 20:18

Seeing is not always believing! It’s amazing to think that even though Mary Magdalene was one of Jesus’ closest friends, disciples, and confidants, even she did not recognize him at first. It was only when she heard his voice speak her name that she realized she was encountering her resurrected Lord.

Jesus repeats this theme in Chapter 10 of John’s Gospel: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” We can encounter God with all five senses, but we learn from Scripture that our ability to hear is of particular interest to God.

Let us pray: Lord, I love the sound of your voice! Today, help me specifically focus on fine tuning my ability to hear your voice.
