Rediscovering God

From today’s Scripture: “Relent in punishing your people.”Ex 32:12

God has had it! This passage from Exodus paints a human side of God in relationship to his people. God is so disgusted with the depravity of his people that he tells Moses to “Go down at once to your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt.…” The Lord disowns them. He tells Moses, “I see how stiff-necked this people is. Let me alone, then that my wrath may…consume them.” Moses reminds the Lord of the covenant: “Let your wrath die down; relent in punishing your people.” Moses had the audacity to speak the truth to power.

When was the last time you told God, “Leave me alone, Lord, I can’t take any more of this! I’ve had enough!” At times, we stubbornly refuse to learn from our experience. But God does not give up on us. God loves us way too much to do that.

Let us pray: Faithful God, thank you for not giving up on me even though I am tempted to give up on you. Massage my stiff-necked self so I can relax and rest in your love and peace.
