Daily Reflection

18th Tuesday in Ordinary Time

Faith in action

From today’s Scripture: “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”—Mt 14:31

The story in today’s Gospel is dramatic. The apostles watch Jesus walk on water. As Peter starts to join him, human frailty takes over and his faith falters, causing Peter to sink. Jesus reaches out and saves him. On shore the opposite takes place. The crowds flock to Jesus with a faith so strong they bring all who were sick to be healed just by touching the tassel of Jesus’ cloak.

Where is my faith? Am I tentative and falling like Peter or reaching out in confidence like members of the crowd?

Let us pray: My Lord, you show us that with God all things are possible. Give us the grace to believe and leave our doubts behind.
