Preparing for Christmas. As the old year ends and
we prepare for new beginnings, I feel so blessed that
Glenmary continues to make a difference—thanks to your support. In thanksgiving, I invite you to send me the
intentions you would like us to remember in
our Glenmary Christmas Novena which begins on Dec. 17. I
also invite you to use the very creative Advent program,
"New Light: Caring for God's Creation During Advent," being
distributed by our Glenmary Justice Commission. You can
download this free nine-page
resource as a PDF. And don't forget to include Glenmary
on your Christmas list with a year-end gift!

A Global Perspective on Appalachian Poverty
When Father John Rausch took the U.N. Independent Expert on Human Rights and Poverty on a tour of Appalachia, it opened his eyes to see poverty—and environmental degradation—from the perspective of human rights. All the more reason Appalachia needs Glenmary—and you!

A Creative Response to Appalachian Need
Once again Glenmary's mission in Vanceburg, Ky., is gearing up for its annual Project Merry Christmas. It is much more than a handout to the parents who come to shop and select Christmas gifts for their children in one of the poorest counties in the Appalachian region.

Immigration: A Christmas Issue
Glenmary's president devoted his recent Glenmary Challenge column to immigration. Father Steve Pawelk's Advent message to vocation prospects reemphasizes the point that Jesus was an immigrant. And Glenmary regional worker Father Les Schmidt is working to have all 48 Catholic bishops of the South sign on to what Catholic Online is reporting as "a strongly-worded" letter to urge a just reform of U.S. immigration policy.
