Catholic Data for 2000 for 174 Catholic Dioceses in the United States
All of the data contained in the following tables have been excerpted from Religious Congregations and Membership in the United States 2000, sponsored by the Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies (ASARB) and published by the Glenmary Research Center (GRC). Glenmary also collected the Catholic data in that study from the various dioceses.
All of the tables contain all of the same information in PDF format for each of 174 Roman Catholic Dioceses: Number of Congregations (Parishes) for 1990 and 2000; Number of Adherents (Members) for 1990 and 2000; Change in Number of Congregations 1990-2000; Percent Change in Adherents, 1990-2000; U.S. Population Change 1990-2000 for comparison purposes; and Percent of the Total Population of the Diocese "Unclaimed" by any of the 149 religious bodies participating in RCMS 2000 study.
The only difference in the tables is the order in which the data are listed; for example, alphabetically (by diocese or by states) or ranked by one of the above characteristics.
Religious Congregations and Membership in the United States 2000 may be ordered from the Glenmary Research Center online at www.glenmary.org/grc for $110.00 including shipping and handling. The package includes the book and 24 bound maps, a CD-ROM with all the data for 1952, 1971, 1980, 1990 and 2000 in Excel spreadsheet format, and a wall map of religious bodies by county for the U.S. The book also contains a methodological section that gives definitions, procedures for data collection, lists of participating religious groups and other information helpful in interpreting the data.
Footnotes at the end of each table identify caveats for using the Catholic data by diocese and in comparing dioceses against each other or across time.
