Farm Dog. This German shepherd mix, named Blue,
was given to the Farm by Holy Redeemer parishioners
Charley and Carol Campbell and their son, Adam. They
knew Blue needed wide open spaces to romp and play. |
News
From October 2003
Fall
in Lewis County is beautiful, with the changing leaves,
mild days and a slowing down from the hectic pace of summer.
Three groups were able to share in this October beauty:
from Villanova University out of Philadelphia, Pa.; from
Mount St. Mary College out of Emmitsburg, Md.; and Notre
Dame University out of South Bend, Ind., These three college
groups not only helped out at the normal service sites but
had the opportunity to do a building blitz for Peoples
Self-Help Housing and empty a whole semi loaded with clothes
and food for the Christian Community Center.
Building
Blitz. All three different groups had the opportunity
to work on a building blitz for People's Self Help Housing.
A building blitz is where Peoples Self Help Housing,
which is the non-profit housing company that the volunteers
do construction with, builds a house in five days from the
foundation. Peoples Self Help usually runs a building
blitz once a year and this year it was located in Garrison,
Ky. From framing to painting, the volunteers had a hand
in all facets of construction of a well built, energy efficient,
affordable house for a deserving Lewis County resident.
Semi
Arrives With Food and Clothing. Also, in October, the
volunteers from Notre Dame were lucky enough to unload a
whole semi of clothes and food from Youngstown, Ohio for
the Christian Community Center. The Christian Community
Center is the local Food Pantry/rummage store/help with
ones bills place in Lewis County. The clothes and food are
much needed before winter hits in Lewis County. It will
provide many families with proper clothing and food before
the holidays arrive. Now, all future groups get to look
forward to sorting and organizing all the new clothing and
food the Christian Community Center has received.
New
Farm Dog. In other news, the Glenmary Farm has a new
Farm Dog. Yep, Blue is the name of the new dog who was so
graciously donated to the Farm. He is a feisty fellow who
loves to play, a perfect partner to Bonzo. The Managers
tried to call him Quad, but it did not work, which is fine
with me, since in my mind there is only one Quad.
