Catholic Evangelization: The Heart of Ministry. By Father Robert
Hater, Ph.D. Harcourt Religion Publishers (2002)
Father
Hater helps one connect everyday experiences with recent Church
documents and developments in Catholic evangelization. He notes
that although the official Church has refocused on evangelization,
there is still fear and confusion among Catholics about Catholic
evangelization. This book seeks to help church professionals and
lay leaders understand and explore the implications of this refocusing
on evangelization in their personal and parish life.
All chapters begin with a story and proceed
with theological and pastoral insights. At the conclusion of each
chapter is a summary of major points, questions for group discussion
and suggestions for action.
Especially noteworthy are the chapters connecting
evangelization with the Kingdom of God, creation, spirituality of
the evangelizer, family, parish and workplace. An excellent chapter
deals with the contrast between Catholic evangelization and Protestant
evangelism. After noting similarities and differences, Father Hater
identifies what Catholics can learn from evangelical evangelism.
This resource can give direction to parishioners
who are growing in their evangelization skills and help others come
to a better understanding of the e-word.
