The
Evangelizing Catholic, A Practical Handbook for Reaching Out,
by Frank DeSiano, CSP. New York: Paulist Press, 1998. $11.95
Parishes
and individuals often perceive themselves as unable to evangelize
because of "not knowing what to do."
This handbook is a practical resource of outreach techniques
and information for individuals and groups. I found these sections
helpful:
-
Answering
the "Are you saved?" question.
-
A
basic outline of core Catholic beliefs that Catholics need to
know.
-
Practical
advice for evangelizing in the workplace.
-
An
extensive section on home visitation by Catholics.
-
Within
the context of the Kingdom of God, the author deals with ecumenism
and evangelization.
This
is one of the best new Catholic resources. I'd recommend that Parish
Councils, small groups and other lay leaders take the time to read
and discuss this book during their meetings.
