So You Want to Evangelize With Another Church?
The
following questions might be used as preparation for a joint evangelizing
project. Add questions of your own which are unique to your locality.
1.
Why do we want to evangelize together? Why do our churches want
to evangelize together?
Some possible responses:
- The prayer of Jesus that all may be one
- Evangelization is not a competitive sport.
- The third goal of Go and Make Disciples (the Catholic
Churchs plan for evangelization) is to foster gospel
values in our society, promoting the dignity of the human person,
the importance of the family, and the common good of our society
so that our nation may continue to be transformed by the saving
power of Jesus. This cannot be achieved by the Catholic
Church alone.
2.
What churches are in our locality?
3.
What relationships already exist between our churches either
through the Ministerial Association or through parish family connections?
4.
What values do we hold in common with each of these churches?
Do we have a history of working with any of these churches on common
projects? What insights can be gleaned from that history?
5.
What unique gifts could each church bring to a common effort?
6.
What needs of the community will be better met by evangelizing together?
7.
What goals have we set for evangelizing ecumenically?
8.
What are the major obstacles to evangelizing ecumenically?
9.
What are some projects with which to get started?
