Glenmarian Appointed to First Pastorate
The Rev. Michael J. Kerin has been named pastor of Holy Cross Church in Pittsburgh, Texas, and Sacred Heart Chapel in nearby Mt. Vernon, according to an announcement by the Rev. Frank Ruff, president of Glenmary Home Missioners. The appointment is effective August 10, 1990, and represents Father Kerin's first pastorate since his ordination in May 1988.
Glenmary is a society of Catholic priests and Brothers serving the spiritual and material needs of the people in Appalachia and the rural South and Southwest. Members operate more than 80 missions in 12 states, serving 15 dioceses, including the Diocese of Tyler.
The 33-year-old Father Kerin holds a Master of Scripture degree from the Washington (D.C.) Theological Union. He is the oldest of four sons of James J. and Lois Kerin of Scarsdale, N.Y. Prior to accepting his new assignment, Father Mike was associate pastor of Glenmary mission parishes in Spencer, Elizabeth, and Grantsville, W.Va. He has also served in Hugo, Okla., and Daingerfield, Texas.
Father Kerin replaces fellow Glenmarian, Father Joseph Dean as pastor of the Pittsburg and Mt. Vernon parishes.
