West Virginia Mission Dedicates New Church Hall

Dedication: Bishop Michael Bransfield dedicated the new church hall at St. Francis of Assisi mission in Logan, W.Va., pastored by Father Tom Charters, above right, on Oct. 21. The bishop also confirmed five youth during the visit.

After many years of planning and holding fundraisers, the members of St. Francis of Assisi mission in Logan, W.Va., have a new social hall. Bishop Michael Bransfield of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston dedicated the building on Oct. 21.

This easily accessible building, connected to the church, holds at least 200 people according to pastor Father Tom Charters. It will be used for receptions, for the monthly dinner hosted by the mission for the senior citizens of the county and for community-wide events.

The dedication was an ecumenical event with pastors and members of local churches attending. Many people have complimented the building’s design, including Bishop Bransfield. According to Father Tom, the bishop was especially impressed with the mountain view from the front of the building.

During his visit the bishop also confirmed five young people of the Glenmary mission: Adam Burroway, Rebecca Canterbury, Corey Hamaker, Kelsey Hamaker and Chance Ooten.

“It was truly a day of celebration and giving thanks to God for our many blessings,” Father Tom says.
