Student Dennis Makokha renews
home mission commitment
 |
| Profession Mass: Father Dan Dorsey, president of Glenmary, signs Dennis Makokha’s Glenmary Oath during a June 28 Profession Mass in Nazareth, Ky., which celebrated Dennis’ Oath renewal. |
Dennis Makokha, who is pursuing missionary priesthood with Glenmary, renewed his Glenmary Oath at a Profession Mass celebrated on June 28, the last day of the community’s General Chapter. In renewing his Oath, Dennis recommitted himself to the practice of poverty, chastity, obedience and prayer.
As a Glenmary Home Missioner he also recommitted himself to his fellow missioners and to the proclamation of the Gospel in rural areas and small towns of the United States.
A native of Kenya, Dennis, 32, begins his second year of study at St. Meinrad School of Theology in September as well as his second year under temporary Oath.
He is joined by 15 other students in formation, including eight new students. This doubles the number of students in Glenmary formation.
With Glenmary for five years, Dennis has been a pioneer during his formation. He was the first international student to experience the former residency program in Owingsville, Ky., and was the last student to experience the former candidacy program before Glenmary changed and updated its formation process.
There are now three phases: prenovitiate, novitiate and postnovitiate. The aspirancy program has students in both the United States and in Mexico.
The story above first appeared in the Autumn 2007Glenmary Challenge.
